Focus of the Fortnight
Please find the topics for Term Three’s Focus of the Fortnight copied below:
Students demonstrate our school values of Honour, Knowledge and Community by making positive choices. To support our understanding and help us to make positive choices, each rotation we focus on a different aspect of SEL (Social and Emotional Learning).

Staying Safe Online
In today’s world, being online is a big part of how we learn, play and connect with others. Just like we practise road safety when crossing the street, it’s important to practise online safety every time we go online. The eSafety Commissioner, Australia’s national online safety regulator, has lots of tips to help children, families and schools stay safe.
Key Tips for Students
- Protect your personal information – Never share your full name, home address, school name, or passwords.
- Think before you click – If a message, link or game doesn’t look right, it probably isn’t safe.
- Be kind online – Treat others with the same respect you’d show in person.
- Tell an adult you trust – If you see or experience something online that makes you feel uncomfortable, upset, or unsafe, always talk to a parent, carer or teacher.
Support for Families
Parents and carers can help by:
- Setting up parental controls on devices and apps.
- Talking regularly with children about what they do online.
- Agreeing on family rules for screen time and device use.
- Visiting the eSafety Commissioner’s website (esafety.gov.au) for free advice, guides and resources.
At School
Our students are learning how to be responsible digital citizens. By practising good online habits at school and at home, we can all help create a safe and respectful online world.

Performing Arts News
Wow, what a show!
I'm so proud of every student who participated on the stage and backstage. Thank you also to those wonderful parents who created the costumes and to all the teachers who worked so hard backstage, dressing the students and putting on their makeup.
What made this show extra special, was that all the digital designs were created by our very talented students. Both performances were amazing with students adjusting to performing on a ‘real’ stage with ease. Everyone helped to create a lifetime of very special memories.
Please enjoy the photos and thank you again to our wonderful Kensington Public School Community.

Cantabile Music Festival Rehearsal
On Monday, 15 September, the Year 3 and 4 choir had the wonderful opportunity to rehearse and perform at the Sydney Opera House.
Here is a recount of the day, written by Erin, Eline, and Rayaa.
On the 15 September, Kensington Public School’s Junior Choir went to the Opera House to perform the 10 songs that we had been learning for 2 terms. Firstly, we all met under the COLA to get our names marked off by Ms Robinson, Mrs Masnick, and Ms Derkenne. After that, we walked to the light rail and headed to Circular Quay. Then we walked to the Sydney Opera House and got ready for our rehearsal.
Moreover, Kensington Public School had to enter and complete a rehearsal to ensure that we were at our very best. All schools attending the concert rehearsed for 4 hours as we perfected every one of our 10 songs. The choir sang like birds, and it was a delight for all who were singing and conducting. We were full of joy as we got ready for the concert.
Next, after the rehearsal we departed the venue and walked to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney. Then we walked to Betty’s Burgers and met Ms Stone at the venue. We were served a mouthwatering burger and a generous amount of chips. Afterwards, we walked back and prepared to perform.
Finally, it was time for the Year 3 and 4 choir performance. We were singing like nightingales, divided into our groups of alto and soprano. Our three favourite songs were Four Chords, Mighty Maddy, and Naughty.
In conclusion, after the performance we had so much fun! Then, as we walked outside, we met our parents and said a beautiful thank you.

Year 2 Movie Night
On a mild spring evening, Year 2 came together under the COLA for a very special outdoor movie night. The students were full of excitement as they settled in with their friends to watch the classic Disney animated film A Bug’s Life. The space was buzzing with chatter and anticipation, and it truly felt like a real cinema experience.
Before the film began, the children enjoyed a tasty sausage sizzle, with juice, frozen yogurt for dessert, and plenty of popcorn to munch on while they watched. After dinner, the kids got comfy, wrapping themselves up in blankets, relaxing on pillows and cuddling their soft toys.
Partway through the night, there was an unexpected challenge when the large outdoor screen stopped working. The students showed wonderful flexibility and patience as teachers quickly wheeled out an interactive whiteboard so the movie could continue. With everyone gathered in close, the film carried on without fuss, and the kids proved that sometimes the best memories come from moments when things don’t go quite as planned!
It was a joyful evening of fun, food, and friendship. Year 2 students loved sharing this experience together, and the event will be remembered as one of the highlights of the term. A big thank you goes to the teachers who made the night possible and ensured everyone had a great time.

Walkathon
We had a fantastic time at our annual KPS K-6 Walkathon last Friday! It was wonderful to see the students come together, walking laps around the school to raise funds to purchase new technology equipment and resources for the new curriculums to be used across K-6, which the students are super excited about! Our students were incredible and are busy collecting their sponsorship money. Please bring in your child/children’s sponsorship money to the school office as soon as possible or pay through the Sentral Parent Portal. Here are some photos that were taken from the day!

On Sunday 7 September Sophie captained her U12 field hockey club team to the Sydney East Premiership. Eline scored a goal in the 3-0 grand final victory. A week later, at the club’s junior presentation day, Sophie received the Best & Fairest award for her commitment and inclusive leadership on and off the field. Well done, Sophie and Eline!
