Student Wellbeing @ KPS
Focus of the Fortnight
Through our Focus of the Fortnight sessions, we teach students about our Kensington Public School values: Honour, Knowledge and Community, by learning new skills and making positive choices.
Each rotation we focus on a different aspect of SEL (Social and Emotional Learning). Our learning is also linked to our Personal Development and Health lessons each week.

Thursday 14 August 2025, Recognition of Bullying No Way: National week of action
On Thursday 14 August 2025, please help us to create positive action by growing connections with students, school staff and our school community. On this day, students at Kensington Public School will recognise the national week of action against bullying. Students will take part in activities and lessons, with content created by teachers. In recognition of this week, students will also be invited to wear odd socks on this day. This activity is a fun way to promote inclusion, student connectedness and a sense of belonging and enables students to express what makes them unique whilst promoting acceptance and positivity.
Please remember to wear your odd socks on Thursday 14 August.

KPS Anti- Bullying Prevention Pledge

Planning for a safe and supportive school community requires a whole-school community approach. Whole-school responses to bullying prevention builds positive and supportive school environments by incorporating strategies for intervention at all levels, inclusive of students, teachers, parents and carers.
Three key characteristics outlined in the national definition of bullying distinguish bullying behaviours from other negative behaviours which are not bullying. The key characteristics of bullying include:
- power imbalance
- deliberate intent to cause harm, and
- ongoing and repeated behaviour.
While the following behaviours are not bullying, they may still be serious and require intervention at home and at school:
- arguments and disagreements (where there is no power imbalance)
- single acts of social rejection or unkind behaviour, or
- isolated incidents of aggression, intimidation or violence.
It is important for our whole-school community, including our staff, parents, carers and students to have a clear understanding of the definition of bullying to be able to correctly identify and respond to incidents of bullying.
If you have concerns that your child is being bullied, please contact the classroom teacher. You will be referred to the Stage Supervisor and/or Principal if a satisfactory outcome is not achieved. If you believe the behaviour constitutes a crime, or is a serious incident of cyberbullying, please refer to the ‘Bullying. No Way!’ website, link below, for information on how to report to other authorities and gaining further help.
For more information about how KPS supports student wellbeing and bullying prevention, please take a look at our 2025 KPS School Behaviour Support and Management Plan which is on our school website and visit the Bullying. No Way! website.
Warm regards,
The Student Wellbeing Team

Walkathon
The K-6 Walkathon excursion form has been posted in the Sentral Parent Portal. The K-6 Walkathon will be in Week 8 on Friday 12 September, with a backup date in Week 9 on Friday 19th September if the weather is bad. The Walkathon begins at 11:30am. Students will walk to Kensington Oval from school. Sponsorship cards will be distributed in Week 6. We will be raising funds to purchase new technology equipment and resources for the new curriculums to be used across K-6.
Parents can pay their donation either in cash through the front office or in the StudentPayPlus option where there is a Walkthon Tile. StudentPayPlus is an easy way to pay for donation payments like Walkathon money, mango orders and other non-invoiced activities etc.
When using StudentPayPlus for the first time, you will be asked to create a new StudentPayPlus account. You will automatically be directed to our Kensington Public School store menu with your child’s credentials already shared across from Sentral. Once logged in, you will be presented with all of the items that have been set up by the school. You will now be able to pay for the Walkathon. Once your item has been added to your cart, you may continue purchasing other items and then navigate to the check out.
If you have any questions about StudentPayPlus, please email via the school email: kensington-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au

NAIDOC Celebrations
What an unforgettable Education Week we’ve shared! This year’s theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy.” truly came to life through the support, energy and involvement of our incredible school community. Throughout the week, we came together to celebrate culture, learning, and community spirit.
Our NAIDOC celebrations opened Education Week with a deeply moving Smoking Ceremony led by Aunty Maxine. It was a powerful moment of reflection, healing and connection to Country. We're also proud to share that we raised $211 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, contributing to the important work of improving literacy outcomes for First Nations children.

Multicultural Day
On Tuesday we held our annual Multicultural Day to celebrate and appreciate the various cultures represented within our school community. Multicultural Day is an opportunity to recognise diversity and is a reminder of the importance of inclusivity. Our school prides itself on being a melting pot of cultures, where students from different backgrounds come together to celebrate their unique identities. Over 50 different languages are spoken throughout our school community, and it was so special to have most of them represented with students’ welcoming and greeting our school members in these languages. It was also lovely to see so many children dressed in their national costumes.
During the concert, a variety of performances were showcased - Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 choirs sang for us, the recorder group performed a rendition of “Fireflies” and our Kindergarten students entertained us with the singing of the Greek Alphabet and “The Two Tiger” song in Mandarin. We were also treated to the whole school performing a dance together to “I’m a Believer”.
After the concert, students ‘travelled’ with their classes through several ‘countries’ where they engaged in various interactive lessons to develop knowledge, promote understanding and gain an appreciation of these countries and their cultures.
The day was a wonderful reminder that we are part of such a diverse, inclusive and harmonious school.

Stage 3 Bathurst Overnight Excursion
The big day had finally arrived — Bathurst camp! You could feel the excitement buzzing through the air as we waved goodbye to our families and climbed aboard our super comfy coach, all rugged up with smiles on our faces.
After a fun-filled ride filled with chatter, songs, and a bit of very off-key singing, we had a quick stop in Glenbrook, a tour of Mount York, then we finally arrived in Bathurst, ready to take on our camp adventure. What was the first thing everyone wanted to do? Get to the cabins and claim the best bed, of course! That night, absolutely no one slept!
The next day, we met our awesome Gold Rush guides. They took us back in time with wild tales about life on the goldfields — some of them made us glad we weren’t actually living back then. Then came gold panning, where a few lucky legends actually struck gold! After that, it was time to show off our skills with boomerang throwing and painting and it was a blast!
We were all exhausted on the second night, and just about everyone was asleep before lights out!
On the way home, we took the scenic route with a stop at the stunning Three Sisters, although the fog allowed us to see no sisters! A relaxing picnic lunch (on the bus because of the rain) was had before the long ride home.
By the time we pulled back into school, we were exhausted, smiling, and excited to see our families.
Bathurst was seriously one of the best camps ever — full of laughs, adventure, and memories we’ll never forget!
Here are a few reviews from students who attended camp:
"Gold panning was really fun!" - Joel
"Cabin time was very exciting!" - Darsh
"Gold panning was great! I caught gold fever!" - Sammy
"Cabin time and all activities - 5 stars! The whole camp made everything we learnt in history at school really sink in" - Shamika
"I liked how they made the tools at the blacksmith" - Zac
"Yummy, yummy food" – Marcus

Festival of Choral Music at the Sydney Opera House Monday 4th August 2025
On Monday 4th August, 15 talented students from Years 5 and 6 proudly represented our school at the Festival of Choral Music, held at the iconic Sydney Opera House. Under the guidance of Mrs Parsons and Ms Robertson, our students joined with hundreds of others from across NSW to form a mass choir and deliver a truly unforgettable performance.
The repertoire was rich and varied, showcasing a range of musical styles. The audience was treated to beautiful renditions of Second Star to the Right, Yilaalu, Skipping Stones, Arlington, A Moment in Time, Manly Ferry, Spring in My Hometown, Children of the Wind, Theme from Spiderman, and the crowd-pleasing You’ve Got a Friend in Me.
The concert was a celebration of musical excellence, dedication, and collaboration. Performing at the Sydney Opera House is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and our students rose to the occasion with confidence, enthusiasm, and professionalism.
Congratulations to all the students involved—you made us extremely proud!

Basketball Nationals
Jamal had an amazing week in Brisbane, Queensland representing NSW at the Basketball Nationals. The NSW boys finished in 5th place. The games were tough and very competitive, with so many talented players from all states coming together.
There was a day without games and all the players had the opportunity to socialise with players from different states. They were able to share their basketball journey, as well as hear the journeys of others, which was really inspirational.
Jamal represented NSW with so much pride, and he played his best.
What an incredible basketball experience for Jamal! Congratulations!
