Welcome
Do You Really Know What Your Children Are Doing Online?
In today's digital age, children are increasingly exposed to the online world, often navigating social media platforms and gaming environments. This access can lead to exposure to inappropriate content, cyberbullying, and interactions with strangers, posing significant risks to their safety and well-being. It's crucial for parents to be aware of the platforms their children are using and to engage in open conversations about online activities.
At Kensington Public School, we prioritise the safety of our students by implementing strict policies regarding the use of all internet ready devices. All such devices must be signed in at the school office upon arrival and can be collected at 3 pm each day. This procedure aligns with the NSW Department of Education's policy, which prohibits the use of mobile phones during school hours to minimise distractions and potential online risks. We also require the return of the signed Code of Conduct paperwork by both students and their parents or carers to ensure a shared commitment to responsible device use.
To support parents in navigating the complexities of online safety, several resources are available:
- eSafety Commissioner: Offers comprehensive guidance on protecting children online, including strategies to manage social media use and online gaming interactions eSafety Commissioner.
- NSW Government's Cybermarvel: Provides resources and tips for parents to help children stay safe online Cyber safe parents | NSW Government
- NSW Police Online Safety: Shares advice on preventing online crimes and ensuring children's safety in digital spaces NSW Police.
By staying informed and involved, parents can play a pivotal role in safeguarding their children's online experiences. We encourage all families to utilise these resources and to maintain open dialogues about digital safety.

Wearing Our School Uniform With Pride
Wearing our school uniform is about so much more than simply getting dressed each morning. It’s a daily reminder that we belong to something bigger than ourselves — a team, a community, and a school that is here to support, guide, and care for us. When we wear our uniform, we show that we are part of the Kensington Public School family, where every student is valued and included.
Our uniform also plays an important role in keeping us safe. When classes are out and about — on excursions, sporting events, or travelling to and from school — wearing a consistent uniform helps identify students quickly. It provides an added layer of security in busy public spaces and helps ensure everyone stays together.
Another important reason for wearing the uniform with pride is the positive message it sends about our mindset and readiness to learn. Taking care of our appearance — clean shoes, neat hair, tidy uniform — sets the tone for a focused and productive day. When we look ready, we often feel ready.
Let’s continue to take pride in our school and in ourselves by wearing our uniform properly and with care each day. It’s a small act that speaks volumes about who we are and what we stand for.
We look forward to seeing those great school uniforms and smiles on Photo Day.
School Photo Day and Group Photo Day
Our School Photo Day is on Tuesday 22 July, our first day back! And Group Photo Day will be on Thursday 24 July. All students are to wear their winter school uniform, including black shoes and green socks. Hair ties need to be green or gold in colour. Students should arrive on time that day as photos will begin at 9:15. Sibling photos will be taken during the recess and lunch breaks. Envelopes for sibling photos can be picked up from the office.

Attendance:
Education for your child is important and regular attendance at school is essential for your child to achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options. NSW public schools work in partnership with parents to encourage and support regular attendance of children and young people. When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier and your child will build and maintain friendships with other children.
The importance of arriving on time:
Arriving at school and class on time
ظ Ensures that students do not miss out on important learning activities scheduled early in the day
ظ Helps students learn the importance of punctuality and routine
ظ Give students time to greet their friends before class
ظ Reduces classroom disruption Lateness is recorded as a partial absence and must be explained by parents.

Year 2 Explore History at Vaucluse House
On a beautiful sunny day, our Year 2 students embarked on an exciting trip to Vaucluse House in Sydney, bringing to life our NSW history unit, The Past is in the Present. The children eagerly explored the grand house and its extensive grounds, discovering the old stables and the vibrant kitchen garden where they planted broad beans. Inside the historic kitchen, the students experienced daily life from the past by sweeping floors, polishing silver, churning butter, and folding laundry — hands-on activities that connected them with how families lived long ago.
The fun continued outdoors as the students played traditional games such as quoits, croquet, bowling, marbles, and yoyos, while some enjoyed bird watching in the gardens. This immersive experience helped our young learners understand how history is alive around us today, linking the stories of the past with their present-day discoveries. It was a day full of sunshine, learning, and laughter that brought history to life in a truly memorable way.

Stage 2 STEM Incursion
UNSW Robogals presented a hands-on STEM workshop for Years 3 and 4 in the hall. The workshop focused on building sturdy structures that could withstand natural disasters, like an earthquake! Students began by looking at real world examples, identifying a common attribute - the triangle. They discussed what made the triangle a more suitable shape for building rather than other shapes, such as a circle. Students then began designing and building their structures in teams using basic materials: spaghetti and marshmallows. Once their structures began taking shape they were tasked with additional challenges requiring students to source different materials to strengthen their builds. Overall, the students had a blast making their models, learned a lot about the importance of teamwork while also developing their critical thinking skills. Thank you again to UNSW Robogals for another rewarding session.

Year 1 Excursion at Vaucluse House
Year 1 went to Vaucluse House on Monday 30 June. We had so much fun learning about the Wentworth family who lived in the house in the 1800s. When we arrived, we broke into groups. Group 1 started with a house tour, and group 2 started with games. During the house tour we learned about the Wentworth family and participated in servant duties. We really enjoyed sweeping, folding, polishing silverware and washing clothes. In our games session we got to play lots of different games like quoits, croquet and bowling. We even got to go bird watching around the grounds. We had so much fun on our excursion.

Kindergarten Randwick Sustainability Hub Incursion
As part of our Science unit on Living Things, we organised a special incursion for our Kindergarten students with Adamama, an organisation within the Randwick Sustainability Hub. Our students have been learning about what makes a living thing, the needs of plants and all the ways that humans use them. In our classrooms, we've been growing bean plants from seed and have loved watching them change each week. We can't wait until they bloom and grow into purple, yellow and green beans for us to eat. The educators from Adamama showed us a different way humans can use veggies. We can use them to dye fabric! We used cabbage, beetroot, turmeric and spirulina to make beautiful pink, blue, yellow and green colours and decorated our own new library bags. It was so much fun!

Round 3 Premier’s Debating Challenge
Our Kensington Public School debaters participated in another challenging debate against Rainbow Street Public School in Week 9. Both teams presented strong arguments and have grown in their presentation skills and knowledge of debate structure. Our Year 6 team debated the affirmative arguments on the topic “That schools should give every Year 6 student a turn in student leadership instead of appointing a few kids for the whole year”. The team presented some very strong arguments and rebuttals but were unfortunately beaten.
The Year 5 team also argued the affirmative side and presented a well-structured debate on the topic “That Year 5 and 6 kids should have to spend one week of school holidays a year working for a charity.” Thanks to some strong definitions and effective teamwork, Kensington was successful in winning this debate.
Congratulations to both teams!

Celebrating Indigenous Cultures
The school proudly displayed the colours of the indigenous flags wearing black, red, and yellow with pride to honour Australian Aboriginal culture, or blue, black and green to represent Torres Strait Islander heritage. Many proudly wore Indigenous sports jerseys, and all students showed their support for the Adam Goodes Foundation. The Adam Goodes Foundation creates opportunities for Indigenous young people through the delivery of holistic programs, with a focus on culture and education to help them reach their full potential. Students celebrated culture, identity and community spirit. Thank you to our wonderful community who continue to support our students and school.

Message from Sydney East Basketball – Well Done Nahla!
My name is Sarah Stewart, and I am the Sydney East Girls Basketball Convenor. I just wanted to write to you and let you know that Nahla, who was in my team for our recent NSW State Basketball Championships did so to an exceptional standard. She showed great commitment attending weekly training sessions all term, along with 2 trial matches in the lead up to the tournament. Over the week Nahla played with enthusiasm, and a competitive nature taking the team through to the grand final where we placed second overall in the championships. Nahla should be congratulated on her commitment to representative sport and holding herself to such a high standard. I wish her all the best in her sporting ventures, and it has been an absolute pleasure to coach her throughout Term 2.

The Heart of Our Events: Volunteers & Community Spirit
Every event shines because of the generous hearts behind it. From surprising last-minute sponsors to homemade treats and spontaneous helping hands, our community showed up in the most beautiful way.
Even when we start with just a few volunteers and the days feel impossible, hope never fades. Time and time again, parents step in like heroes, saving the day and turning challenges into moments of joy and warmth. These are the moments that remind us it’s never just about the event, it’s about connection, kindness, and the power of coming together.
Most of all, it’s about the smiling kids, coming together, feeling they belong, and knowing they’re in a safe, caring place where they can grow and thrive.
To everyone who gives their time, effort, and heart, thank you. You create lasting memories and keep our little ones fuelled, in every way that truly matters.
